Agricultural Expo to enhance rural development initiatives

On Monday 30 August, the Gauteng farming community come together in Tshwane to witness the launch of the new Agricultural Expo by the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development [GDARD] MEC, Ms Nandi Mayathula-Khoza. The expo is a partnership between the GDAR and the Tshwane show.

In her speech, MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Ms Nandi Mayathula-Khoza encouraged everyone involved in agriculture to work hard to promote food security and shy away from prioritizing material accumulation. She also encouraged the farming sector to form partnerships in order to succeed.

Gauteng honours female entrepenuers

It is that month again when South Africa celebrates the outstanding contributions by women and the role they continue to play in their communities. From 1 ST of August many events have been outlined by various institutions and organizations to mark and commemorate this important historic month in our country.

Various provinces have also outlined their activities that will ensure that woman in all corners of the country are well celebrated. The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is amongst those organizations that have awarded and celebrated the contributions made by Female Farmers in an effort to reduce poverty in the province.

GDARD calls for rabies vaccination in Gauteng

Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development launched a three-day vaccination campaign to proactively prevent rabies diseases in Kagiso on the West Rand. The campaign is prompted as a result of an outbreak of rabies in Witpoortjie last month but which was brought under control. The campaign started on Monday, 19 July, and ended 22 July 2010.

As part of bringing services to the people, the department would like to remind people that this vaccination is free of charge in view of the serious public health risk of rabies. Residents are urged to bring their cats and dogs for vaccination in the interest of protecting themselves from this dreaded disease. All dogs and cats over the age of three months that were not vaccinated for rabies in the last month must be vaccinated.
