This is an initiative of the Gauteng Department of Agriculture, and Rural Development (GDARD). In 2007 Gauteng Province adopted a biotech strategy which falls within the ambit of the Gauteng Growth and Development Strategy.

Early in 2002, just a few months before the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) was held in Johannesburg from 26 August to 3 September, Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa, announced the start of a Clean and Green campaign in his speech at the opening of the Legislature.
Gauteng Climate Change Information Portal
The website is an information sharing platform to inform stakeholders of current trends in Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, key indicators of emissions, and any current and on-going developments on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
